Dogs Who Do Well In Urban Settings

Even though I live in a city, the dog lover in me can’t resist the urge to have a pet scurrying about my apartment. I’m generally a sucker for bigger dogs, but there are certain limitations that any owner must face when figuring out the best breed for a city setting.

Most people living in apartments simply don’t have the luxuries that houses do. There are no backyards for dogs to roam about, and there’s nowhere for them to go to the bathroom.

Because of the limitations that you’ll find in cities, some dogs simply adapt to the settings more effectively than others. I’m going to share a few great dogs that may very well love life in the big city.

One of the most popular city dogs happens to be the Dachshund. There are various benefits that come with keeping this breed in a smaller apartment. The biggest one has to do with the fact that they love to be inside and don’t need much exercise.

An extremely all around friendly breed is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These are some of the most loving breeds around and they’re especially great with children. While they do just fine inside apartments, they do need some time to run around outside too.

Some people prefer not to go with small dogs, but the challenges of getting a larger one are obvious. You simply don’t want something that feels too big for your apartment. A perfect solution here may be the Greyhound.

The Greyhound is happiest when inside, as they require little movement. They get bonus points for the fact that they bark less than almost any other breed, which means that your neighbors won’t complain about being woken late at night.

You can always go with a mutt too. In saving a life, you should take pride in the fact that you’re giving a dog a home.
